Master Classes

WaterTower Theatre is proud to offer Master Classes and vocational opportunities for the DFW artistic community. These courses have been created as vocational study in the performing arts. Each class will utilize specialized curriculum using various theatrical disciplines to create a well-rounded opportunity for students to build on their professional careers. Enrollment form link below.

September 24-December 10, 2017 (No class Oct. 8)
Sunday evenings from 7pm-10pm
Fee: $400

This 11-week course is for an intimate group of 10 actors to work on ensemble scene study techniques and execution with Artistic Director Joanie Schultz. Using a combination of techniques from Stanislavski-based text analysis to viewpoints, this class is a laboratory for actors to workshop, develop, and experiment with their ensemble acting technique in a room with like-minded actors, and an instructor who has taught in acting schools and universities around Chicago including the School at Steppenwolf.

January 14-April 1, 2018
Sunday evenings from 7pm-10pm
Fee: $400

This 12-week fundamentals of directing course will cover some techniques and basics of the many facets of directing including text analysis, research, creating and articulating a unified vision, composition, and working with actors. During the course, students will study plays, work on directorial exercises, and direct scenes. This course will provide a foundation of work and resources for further questions and study, and could work for emerging directors or directors wanting to refine their technique. Joanie Schultz, Artistic Director of WaterTower Theatre, has taught directing for over 10 years on the university level, and was the Assistant Coordinator of the Directing program at Columbia College Chicago, creating courses and curriculum for one of the only undergraduate B.F.A. in Theatre Directing programs in the United States. All directors in this class will work as actors in class projects as well as directing.

Summer Performing Arts Conservatory

We’re moving in an exciting new direction with the Summer Performing Arts Conservatory!

Over two weeks, students will be cultivating their skills in three intensive courses, each led by a different professional theatre artist. This training will offer a more well-rounded experience, and will provide the students with a strong artistic foundation that can be used in the classroom or on the professional stage. The students will also gain valuable interpersonal communication skills that will benefit their day-to-day lives. The Conservatory will culminate in a performance showcase for friends and family focused on utilizing the skills and crafts learned over the two-week program.

The Summer Conservatory is sponsored, in part, by Frost Bank, Corky Pledger, The Civic League, Texas Commission on the Arts, Whole Foods Addison, and The Town of Addison.
