WEEK 10 - A Birthday Blog
WEEK 10 - A Birthday Blog
Posted on August 4, 2017 by Kelsey Ervi

Hey followers, I think I’m high.

I’m writing this blog post from Barnes and Noble because we got fumed-out of the office. They are fixing the roof of the building WaterTower operates out of (shout out to the Addison Theatre Centre), and throughout the entire week it’s smelled like poison in the offices. When it rains, the roof of the building does this cutesy thing where it leaks and drips water into our rehearsal space. It’s nice if you’re parched, but not great for everything else. So we appreciate the fixing of the roof and look forward to the smell going away.

Fortunately, it doesn’t smell like death and despair in the front of the building where our patrons congregate. It’s all concentrated in the back office hallways where the magic* happens. So, breathe deeply, WTT Staff, or leave the building immediately.

This week has been so freakin’ cool! Yeah yeah uh-huh uh-huh. I’m a week into my real job as a Front of House Associate and I haven’t destroyed the Company yet! #winning One of the perks of being an employee and an intern at the same time is that I have this blog to talk to my friends (internet friends…blog readers…strangers with laptops and smart phones) about what my real job is like. While I’ve been training on my real job, Kayla Freeman, our Box Office Manager has been so patient with me. Sometimes she tells me, “You’re such a gem, but the line is long so move over and let me do the computer.” #kaylasaveslives

The other good news is that this week Hit the Wall has been good. And by good I mean freakin’ awesome. Did you see the review in The Dallas Morning News? I think we might be killing it right now. #ilovetheatre

The experience of assistant directing the show and getting to know all these new people was amazing. And the cookies that people kept buying the actors were really good too!

Speaking of cookies…today is my birthday. Woo! I am 22 today and I think that is a good age because now that I’m not 21 anymore my grown up friends will hopefully let me hangout with them more. I’m always “the baby” because I was the last one to drive, the last one to drink, and now the last one to groove to Taylor Swift’s hit song “22.” Today I really do feel 22 because I’m at work answering phone calls and helping people buy tickets. #adultish

Tonight after the performance of Hit the Wall (and every Friday for the rest of the run) is Local Band Night as part of our new Intersections program! We are so excited to feature local bands in our space, and we are also excited (and by “we” I mean me) because it’s my birthday party. Now, nowhere does it officially say that it is my birthday party…but if I declare it in this blog then it is true. Isn’t that how the internet works these days? So, YOU (internet friend…reader of this blog…fellow American) are invited to my birthday-party-concert-featuring-MERCURY ROCKET-that-is-totally-for-me tonight after Hit the Wall. And while you’re at it, call the Box Office and buy tickets to Hit the Wall too! #hitthewallWTT

You can wish me a happy birthday if you’d like, but if you sing to me I expect it to be in Italian. My whole childhood I grew up going to Carrabba’s Italian Grill for my birthday and they’d sing to me in Italian. #highexpectations

Things I learned this week:

  • Inhaling poison is not great for your life span.
  • Joanie’s real friends are in town from #thesecondcity and will potentially be interviewing me for the role of “Third Tier Friend.”
  • I’m thankful for Facebook because it reminds people to wish you a happy birthday.
  • Kesha’s song “Woman” is still a #JAM

Thanks for reading.
Lots of hugs and kisses.
Miss you already.

-The Birthday Girl (Tiffany)

*Disclaimer: There is no real magic that happens in the theatre. Unfortunately, we do not have a magician on staff. However, Joanie is still potentially a wizard, but more on that later.
